Wasa Dredging, a Finnish marine offshore and inland water construction company, started their first ever project in Denmark on March 1, 2018.

Under the contract, Wasa’s backhoe dredger Optimus, equipped with a 360 ton Hitachi excavator, will dredge over 900.000m³ of clay, silt and moraine from the Kalundborg Harbor area.

The dredged material will be loaded into the newly constructed self propelled split barges Boann and Sinann and taken to an offshore dump at a distance of 8,5 nautical miles from the dredging area.

Kalundborg is a self-governing public harbor, led by a seven member board of directors, of which five are from the municipal council.

Economically, the harbor functions as an independent economic and legal entity without public subsidies. Profits are invested in maintenance of infrastructure, and development of harbor facilities.
