IADC’s Young Author Award is given annually to “to stimulate the promotion of new ideas and encourage younger men and women in the dredging industry”.

The award is granted at industry-leading conferences, with 2018’s winning young author selected from the proceedings of the 34th PIANC World Congress.

François De Keuleneer was selected as the Young Author Award winner for the co-authoring as well as the presentation of “Enhancing Workability by Operational Wave Modelling”.

The Young Author Award winner is an Environment Engineer at DEME Group working in the marine engineering industry with a focus on wave data acquisition systems and workability of vessels.

The paper introduced an innovative workability tool (WoTo) to objectify the decision-making process regarding the weather conditions when working in harsh weather conditions, especially in regions around the world with problematic wave climates.

According to IADC, De Keuleneer gave a clear and well-received presentation of the paper which was followed by an insightful question and answer session with the audience. Co-authors of the paper include Joris de Vroom of BMT Argoss and Arjan Mol of DEME Group.
