The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced earlier this week that Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pennsylvania, will receive $1.5 million for beach nourishment in the USACE’s work plan for fiscal year 2018.

On March 8, 2018, U.S. Representative Mike Kelly sent a personal letter to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) to formally request that sand replenishment for Presque Isle remain a high-priority project in the USACE’s FY 2019 budget and FY 2018 work plan.

Commenting the latest news, Rep. Kelly, said: “I am very pleased that the Army Corps of Engineers has once again recognized the importance of properly maintaining Presque Isle State Park’s seven-mile shoreline. These beaches are a natural and economic treasure for our entire region and country. I’m very proud to have once again led this bipartisan effort to ensure that they remain pristine and healthy for the millions of families and tourists who visit them each year, as well as the hundreds of local jobs they support.”

On April 20, 2018, Rep. Kelly submitted a joint bipartisan letter to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) to once again officially requesting that sand replenishment for Presque Isle remains a high-priority project in the USACE FY 2018 work plan and FY 2019 budget.

The letter was co-signed by Rep. Glenn Thompson, and U.S. Senators Bob Casey, Jr. and Pat Toomey.
