USACE: Milestone for St. Augustine Beach Dredging Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announced today that dredging work for the renourishment of the St. Johns County Shore Protection Project is now complete.

Final tilling and beach work will continue through Thursday, and construction equipment located at Pope Road will be removed by June 26.

This project renourished critically eroded shoreline between the southern limits of Anastasia State Park (8th St.) in St. Augustine Beach. Approximately 750,000 cubic yards of beach quality sand from the navigation channel and ebb shoal were placed onto eroded areas.

“We would like to thank the community for their tremendous support and cooperation during the construction of this important project,” said Project Manager Jason Harrah, “This project exemplifies the great partnership between the Corps and St. Johns County.”

The purpose of the project is provide storm damage reduction for upland development.
