Meeting on Wainui Beach Erosion Management Strategy This Week
Gisborne District Council said in their announcement that a public information session will be held this week to update residents on progress of the Wainui Beach Erosion Management Strategy (WBEMS).
The council said that, during the meeting, residents will learn more about recent hearing decisions in relation to the management strategy.
Long term, the Wainui community will need to prepare for a managed retreat approach to managing beach erosion, according to the announcement.
The information session will be hosted by the Council’s Land, Rivers and Coastal Manager, Neil Daykin. He will discuss hearing decisions, next steps and the implications for the WBEMS.
“There’s no big presentation from me, it’s more for me to listen to the community,” Daykin said. “I’m running the meeting as informally as possible with people being able to drop in at any time to meet and talk.”
The meeting is set to take place on Thursday, July 19, from 5pm-7pm at the Wainui School hall.
