Balluta Bay Beach Nourishment Work Wrapped Up

A beach nourishment program at Malta’s Balluta Bay, located between St Julian’s and Sliema, is now completed, Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said in his latest announcement.

According to the Tourism Ministry’s latest statement, the operations on the beach had been studied for a number of months before implementation of ‘experimental’ methods to replenish the bay’s sand.

These studies had been carried out a few years ago and they had decided that, rather than import sand, it would collect the sand that is dispersed on the seabed throughout the bay and put it back in place, thereby extending the beach from its previous size.

Minister Mizzi also added that his ministry would be looking to carry out similar works at other bays, in a bid to continue improving Malta’s credentials as a tourist destination.
