Dragflow, an Italian manufacturer of dredging equipment, recently delivered their dredging pumps HY85/160HC, together with two side cutters EXHY, to the Val di Vizze cleanup project, located in the mountains of Trentino Alto Adige, Italy.

The dam on the Rio Vizze, built in 1927, forms a small lake known as Lago di Novale. The constant supply of debris from the watercourse determines an accumulation of sediments at the base of the dam.

The customer’s need was to remove 35,000 cubic meters of material in a simple and effective way to counteract the phenomenon and keep the capacity of the small basin controlled, said Dragflow.

The solution

Given the limited depth (5 meters) and the small size of the construction, the most suitable solution was to mount one of Dragflow’s HY85/160HC pumps on a mechanical arm, positioned directly on the dam.

The pump, suspended by a cable hanging from the mechanical arm, is able to operate on the entire surface of the dam effectively removing the sediments.

The drain pipe leads the material into a storage tank located 400 meters away.
