Figueira da Foz Dredging Project Set for Mid-2019

Figueira da Foz Port (Portugal) – managed by APFF-Administração do Porto da Figueira da Foz, SA – is about to award a contract for the deepening of the port’s main channel.

On Monday, September 24, the Port announced that the award of the project and environmental impact study for the deepening of the bar and navigation channel will be made in October.

The port expects dredging to begin in the last quarter of 2019 – right after the completion of the environmental impact study – extending until July 2021.

The cost of the contract is estimated at EUR 16 million, a third compared to what was originally planned.

The reduction in price comes mainly from the fact that amount of the rocks and method to be used for dredging in this rocky area are completely different compering to what was initially planned.

The main aim of this dredging project is to increase the current draft from 6.5 meters to 8.5, increasing the size of the ships that call at the Port from 120 meters in length to 150.
