Myrtle Beach Renourishment Continues

Beach renourishment continues in the Myrtle Beach with Great Lakes Dredge and Dock crews working on the project 24-hours-a-day, seven- days-a-week, to get it complete before the December 15 deadline.

According to the Myrtle Beach City Government, the contractor has completed the work from the southern city limits to approximately 43rd Avenue North.

The City also added that more sand still needs to be placed on the beach from 43rd Avenue North to the northern city limits.

The Myrtle Beach scheme is part of the $34 million beach re-nourishment project along the Grand Strand which includes approximately eight miles on Myrtle Beach, four miles on Surfside and Garden City Beaches and two miles on North Myrtle Beach.

Great Lakes Dredge and Dock has already completed renourishment work in Garden City and Surfside Beach.

In all, Myrtle Beach will receive around 1.1 million cubic yards of sand to replace sand lost over time, and especially due to hurricanes in the last three years. All works are set to be completed in the next few weeks.
