Maintenance dredging continues on the Wilmington Harbor Anchorage Basin project just south of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge near downtown Wilmington, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Wilmington District said in their latest project update.

The project is being dredged to 42 feet by contractor Southern Dredging.

Wilmington District project managers expect the dredging to be completed by the end of January 2019.

The work consists of removal and disposal of shoaled material that has accumulated in the channels and berth areas since the various areas were last dredged. The work requires a hydraulic cutter suction dredge, reported USACE.

The estimated quantity of material that will be dredged during the works is 1.4 million cubic yards.
