Pictou Boat Harbor Remediation Project Proposed

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is about to decide whether a federal environmental assessment is required for the proposed Boat Harbor Remediation Project, located approximately five kilometers east of Pictou, Nova Scotia.

To help inform this decision, the Agency is seeking comments from the public and Indigenous groups on the project and its potential effects on the environment.

As a next step, the Agency will post a decision on its website stating whether an environmental assessment is required. If one is required, the public will have three more opportunities to comment on the environmental assessment of the project.

Nova Scotia Lands Inc. is proposing the remediation and restoration of the Boat Harbor and nearby lands, located next to the Pictou. The Government plan calls for the closing of the facility and as part of the remediation and restoration work, hazardous waste-bearing sediment from the facility will be removed and stored on-site in an existing hazardous waste landfill.

Deadline for sending written comments is January 27, 2019.
