Central Marco Island Beach Renourishment About to Begin

Collier County’s Central Marco Island beach re-grade project is set to begin in the first week of February, according to the City officials.

The contractor for the project, Earth Tech Enterprises, Inc, will start the scheme in front of the South Seas West Condominium and move south to the Royal Seafarer Condominium.

Work will begin the first week in February and will occur Monday thru Saturday from dusk to dawn through April. Nighttime dredging activities may occur, but work will be limited to an area along the water’s edge,” the City of Central Marco Island said in the notice.

Overall, the project includes dredging of approximately 175,000 cubic yards of sand from the nearshore area of Central Marco Island Beach. The dredged sand will be placed on the beach and graded up to the dunes to create a wider berm seaward of the upland dune with a seaward slope to mean high water.

The City also added that the work will be conducted in 1,500’ sections along the beach with an orange construction fence to be installed to enclose the work areas.

Signs will be placed along the beach to direct the public as to where they can access the beach during construction. Heavy equipment access will be through the Resident’s Beach North Gate,” the officials concluded.

The whole project is set to be completed prior to April 15, 2019.
