‘Wonderful World of Hydraulic Engineering’ in Sliedrecht

The Historical Association Sliedrecht (Historische Vereniging Sliedrecht) will host a lecture named ‘The Wonderful World of Hydraulic Engineering – Dredging’ on Thursday, March 21, 2019 in Sliedrecht, the Netherlands.

Dredging is much more than bringing sand to the surface, it is the whole world of hydraulic engineering, said the Association in its announcement.

The construction of new ports, land reclamation in Hong Kong, the Palm Islands Project in Dubai, construction of Maasvlakte 1 and Maasvlakte 2, extension of the Suez Canal etc. are just some of the projects that dredgers have conducted all over the world.

During the lecture, the past, present and future of dredging – together with some amazing dredging photos – will be introduced.

A fascinating story about man and his machines, presented by two old dredgers, volunteers from the National Dredging Museum, will also be part of the event.

The lecture will take place in the Grienden College large room, starting at 7:30 PM.
