USACE Takes Action at Fair Haven Pier

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Buffalo District teams have completed an initial damage assessment of the Fair Haven pier, which protects Little Sodus Bay Harbor, to better understand the extent of the damages sustained.

Based on the initial assessment, design work is being initiated to determine options for repairing the pier, with results expected this fall.

“We appreciate the continued support of the local elected officials, channel users, and congressional members as we develop a plan of action to address the repair needs. I would also like to thank everyone in the local community who has reached out to our office and expressed their concerns,” said Maj. Patrick Billmann, USACE Buffalo District Deputy Commander.

“Your comments have helped us better understand the current situation so we can develop possible solutions. We are committed to communicating the status of the project as soon as we have more information.”

The repair work at Fair Haven pier will have to compete against other federal infrastructure needs across the Nation, for limited funds, before repairs can be implemented, said USACE.
