An upcoming major milestone will be LTG Semonite’s final approval of the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) project in the coming months, according to an official announcement from Zeldin’s office.

“It has been great working with the Army Corps to secure victories for Long Islanders, such as the emergency dredge of the Moriches Inlet and the dredge of the Long Island Intracoastal Waterway. I thank the Army Corps, especially Commanding General Semonite and Colonel Asbery, for their continued hard work and look forward to continuing to work together to improve Long Island’s waterways and maritime infrastructure, especially the upcoming completion of the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) project,” said Congressman Zeldin.

The authorized project provides for hurricane protection and beach erosion control along five reaches of the south shore of Long Island between Fire Island Inlet and Montauk Point, a distance of approximately 83 miles.

The project also authorizes Federal participation in periodic nourishment. The sponsor is the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
