Early marine works currently underway include the investigation of archaeology, obstructions and unexploded ordnance (UXO) using specialist dive teams and excavation equipment.

A CAT 385 long reach excavator, fitted with GPS equipment and linked to bathymetric survey data, is working alongside the dive team on the Neptune barge.

Graham Construction with a great deal of experience on such projects are involved as principal contractor on both the land and marine works with the new development due to open in 2020.

Overall, the Tilbury 2 project includes construction of a new berthing facility for the import of construction materials and containers; construction of container storage and construction materials storage areas; construction of new road and rail links to the Tilbury2 site; extension to the existing Fort Road Bridge to accommodate the new road and rail link underneath; work to increase capacity on the ‘ASDA roundabout’; construction of enhancements to pedestrian and cycle routes local to the Tilbury 2 site.
