The Army Corps of Engineers’ Jacksonville District contractor, Norfolk Dredging, began the latest work on the Pinellas County shore protection project on Monday, May 27, on Upham Beach, Florida.

By Wednesday, crews had placed 23,000 cubic yards of sand on the north end of the beach, said USACE in its latest update.

Barring any unforeseen weather or equipment delays, the project will be complete in the coming weeks and see 160,000 cubic yards of sand added to the beach.

The sand placement will be from north to south, with about 700 feet fenced off around the active work area.

Sand for the project will be dredged from Blind Pass.
