Thickness measurements, tank inspections and inspections of machinery and equipment as well as service of safety equipment are part of this survey.

As dredgers like Hein are susceptible to wear, due the erosive influence of dredged substances, for the yard this means that steel replacement is one of the major jobs to be carried out.

The owners at the same time take care of servicing dredging equipment to be able to have the vessel operate in a reliable manner for the upcoming period.

Engines, pumps, piping, valves and boxcoolers are being serviced, said Damen.

One of the ship’s azimuth thrusters will be replaced with a serviced spare unit.

On the conservation side the decks will be hydrojetted to receive fresh layers of paint and the exterior of the hull will also be grinded, cleaned and painted. Upon completion of this 3-week work Hein will be ready to go back into service.
