Donjon Marine Bags Newark Bay Dredging Contract

  • Business & Finance

Donjon Marine, from Hillside, NJ, has won a $12.1 million contract for maintenance dredging of portions of the Newark Bay, New Jersey Federal Navigation Project.

Bids for this dredging program were solicited via the internet with three received, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) said in its latest announcement.

The cleanup scheme will include removal of approximately 160,000 cubic yards of selected critical shoals from the Bay’s Main Channel. The dredged material is expected to consist primarily of silt and clay.

Due to restrictions found in the water quality certificate, the proposed work will be performed by utilizing a mechanical dredge with a closed environmental clamshell bucket.

According to an official announcement, the dredged material will be processed and subsequently transported to and placed at a state permitted upland placement site.

Work will be performed in Newark, NJ, with an estimated completion date of September 30, 2019.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, is the contracting activity.
