According to the update, the works are progressing ahead of schedule with the East Beach being now fully open.

The contractor’s compound will remain at East Beach car park until w/e 26 July whilst the contractor completes work placing surplus rocks and shingle at West Beach. West Beach is expected to be open for 19th July, although this is weather dependent, the officials said.

Overall, some 40,000 tonnes of rock was imported on to the beach so that new and improved sea defenses can be constructed.

They also added that no further late night working is planned to take place, although there’s a small chance of some truck movements between the beaches outside peak hours before 11pm.

It is expected the only outstanding works to be the stone facing of the back of the new flood wall along the Esplanade. Completion of this work will take place in September after the summer break, with completion in October.

The contractor, BMMJV is planning to hold a final drop in session on the scheme at the Salt House on July 11.
