The Story Behind the Shoreham Adur Tidal Walls Scheme

The Shoreham Adur Tidal Walls scheme is a flood defense scheme in the town of Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex.

The scheme covers 7.2 km of the river Adur. 1.8 km on the east bank between Coronation Green and the A27 Road Bridge, and 5.4 km on the west bank between the river mouth and the A27 road bridge.

The frontage is divided into seven reaches on the west bank (W1 to W7) and three reaches on the east bank (E1 to E3).

The scheme is designed to reduce the risk of flooding to over 2500 properties in Shoreham and east Lancing.

Construction on the scheme was completed in March 2019.

The Environment Agency held an official opening event for the scheme in March to celebrate the completion of the project.
