North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has released this incredible video showing before, during and after the ‘Bacton to Walcott Coastal Management Sandcaping Scheme’.

The project – executed by Van Oord and Royal Haskoning DHV, working as part of Team Van Oord – was officially handed over to client NNDC during the festive ceremony September 20, 2019.

Bacton to Walcott Coastal Management Scheme is the UK’s first ever sandscaping coastal flood scheme.

Over the course of the project, Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 318 dredged and deposited around 1.8 million cubic meters of sand onto the Bacton to Walcott beaches.

The sand that was placed on the beaches will be carried by the current along the Norfolk coast, ending up on the coastline further south.

The project, designed by Royal Haskoning DHV, is an export product based on the Dutch Sand Motor.
