USACE Awards Contract to Repair Cedar Creek Levee System

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District awarded a $1.3 million construction contract last week to Midwest Construction of Nebraska City to repair damages to the Cedar Creek – Omaha Fish & Wildlife Platte River Right Bank Levee System.

This levee system protects more than $12 million of property along the right bank of the Platte River near Cedar Creek, Nebraska. During the 2019 spring flooding, the system experienced minor and major erosion along thousands of feet of the levee.

According to USACE, this is the first non-federal levee system to be repaired and seventh full repair project on the tributary systems throughout the Omaha District area of responsibility that were damaged during the 2019 spring flooding.

“Repairing the levee systems has involved extensive coordination with our levee sponsors and the Cedar Creek system has been no exception,” said Trish Lambert, Deputy Chief for the Omaha District Systems Restoration Team.

“With this particular system, the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District and the Omaha Fish and Wildlife Club, are cost-sharing the repairs and have been instrumental in moving this project to construction.”

Repairs on the Cedar Creek levee system are expected to be complete mid-April of 2020.
