A $4,6 million dredging project in Hampton-Seabrook harbor in New Hampshire is officially underway.
Commenting the latest news, New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen , said: “Dredging at Hampton-Seabrook Harbor will strengthen the economy and improve safety for local fishermen and anyone who uses the harbor. This has been a top priority of mine and I’m so pleased that the Army Corps of Engineers has begun emergency dredging efforts.”
Vessel owners in the state’s largest fishing port say that the emergency dredge is long overdue.
According to the owners, sandy shoals that have built up on the bottom of the harbor are creating navigational hazards and hurting their businesses.
During the project, approximately 150,000 cubic yards (CY) of sandy material will be hydraulically dredged from the 8-ft channel, and three 6-ft anchorages at the mouth of the river and material pumped onto adjacent beaches in Hampton and Seabrook.
