Amsterdam has become a bit bigger with the construction of the Strandeiland in the IJmeer.
With an area of 135 hectares, the beach island becomes the largest island in IJburg.
Together with a partner, Boskalis recently realized the first phase-83 hectares-of this large-scale land acquisition.
During project implementation, a CO2 emission reduction of as little as 28 % was achieved in addition to a significantly lower nitrogen emissions.
Various measures contributed to this achievement. These include the use of sustainable biofuels, the use of innovative equipment such as a hybrid bulldozer and generators, and additional efforts by the project team to minimize dry ground resistance emissions.
