Government of Canada recently announced a non-repayable contribution of $380,000 to the Scott’s Bay Wilderness Society for a harbour revitalization project.
The project includes upgrades to the current wharf and breakwater, and the installation of a new floating dock system. The improved infrastructure will be more accessible to recreational boaters, fishers and emergency services, which will help attract more long-term, seasonal and day users to the harbour.
“Scots Bay is one of the most beautiful places in the world and the harbour revitalization project will offer new recreational opportunities for residents, businesses and visitors to benefit from the area’s rich history and magnificent natural landscapes,” said Kody Blois , Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants.
“We are so grateful to see the many years of hard work by community members supported by all three levels of government with this project. The revitalization of the harbour will create opportunities for the community and local businesses and enhance the tourist experience in the area,” commented Jerry Huntley , Chair, Scott’s Bay Wilderness Society.
Other funding partners for this project include: The Government of Nova Scotia through Communities, Culture and Heritage ($95,000); the Municipality of the County of Kings ($49,296); and, the community of Scots Bay, through the Scott’s Bay Wilderness Society ($300,000).
The upgraded infrastructure will serve as a safe harbour from which emergency personnel can conduct marine and shoreline search and rescue operations and provide medical assistance to fishers and boaters.
