The International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) has officially released its ‘Annual Report 2020’ highlighting the broad spectrum of activities undertaken over the course of the year.
Like so many sectors, the dredging industry faced a difficult 2020 in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. During unprecedented times, dredging companies had to deal with challenging crew changes as well as new projects being postponed or delayed coming to the market.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 proved to be an engaging and fruitful year for IADC. While staff had to work from home, they all managed quite well with the new situation.
Throughout the year, IADC focused on the theme sustainability. It resulted in several activities and the establishment of the Sustainability Committee.
This committee prepared the programme of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September. The regular 3-day event was cancelled and replaced by an online event held over two morning sessions.
The Young Management Programme held in Dubai in February was the last live event IADC hosted before the pandemic hit.
The transition from traditional face-to-face activities to online versions meant that in spite of the COVID -19 constrictions, IADC was able to continue with many of its activities in one way or another.
And, in some cases, new digital working methods were actually advantageous as less time was spent on travelling which also fits well with a more sustainable working philosophy.
In the coming years, IADC will undertake additional projects to inform the world about the importance of sustainability and what the dredging industry can contribute to a more sustainable world. At the same time, the Secretariat aims to strengthen the network of the Association.
