The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently released the Draft South Atlantic Coastal Study (SACS) Main Report which provides a strategic framework of potential options (recommendations) to address problems within the SACS area.

The SACS is a comprehensive study that applies watershed planning concepts to identify actions for advancing coastal resilience along the 65,000 miles of tidally influenced shoreline across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The study focuses on maintaining and adapting projects and programs that are successfully addressing coastal risk while advancing emerging methods. It also emphasizes the importance of advancing coordination and collaboration on complex issues such as land use and development practices to manage increased coastal storm risk as a result of sea level rise throughout the SACS study area.

USACE will host a series of webinars to showcase report findings and recommendations for each state and territory of the SACS study area.

The goal of each webinar is to provide a brief overview of SACS, including a review of the Draft SACS Main Report regional findings and recommendations and provide a summary of the state-specific findings, risk reduction strategies, and recommendations.

The SACS Report is available for review and comment through November 15, 2021.
