Kill Devil Hills beachfill to begin next month

Weeks Marine Inc. is gearing up for the start of $6.4 million Kill Devil Hills beach nourishment project in Dare County, North Carolina.

Town of Kill Devil Hills

The contractor recently provided the town with a tentative construction timeline for this beachfill project. According to the timeline, the works will take place from June through Mid-July, for a duration of about 25-35 days.

It is important to note that staging of equipment will take place before construction of the beach begins. During this equipment staging process, Weeks will begin placing the distribution pipeline along the beach and putting heavy equipment—such as bulldozers, loaders and excavators—into place.

The beach nourishment project will kick off from the northern Town line south to Windsong Way, and tapering from Windsong Way south approximately 1,000 feet to Prospect Avenue – which is approximately 2.6 miles of Kill Devil Hills.

The project is part of a wider effort to address the critical issue of erosion occurring along the beaches of the Outer Banks, several miles of shoreline will be replenished within the towns of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head, as well as the villages of Avon and Buxton on Hatteras Island.
