Boskalis’ colleagues at Boskalis Terramare, together with their client and project partners, have been awarded the Project of the Year 2022 award by the Finnish Project Management Association for the deepening of the Vuosaari Channel in the Port of Helsinki.
They deepened the channel from 11 to 13 meters and reused a significant part of the dredged material for the reclamation of land for the new residential and office area Hernesaari in the Finnish capital.
Commenting the prestigious award for this innovative infrastructure project, Managing Director of Boskalis Terramare Hannu Tomperi , said: “From an environmental point of view, it was important to reuse the rock from the channel for the new residential and office area in Hernesaari.”
“On top of that, by using Boskalis split barges to transport the rock by sea, we were able to avoid many movements of truck traffic through the busy city of Helsinki.”
