Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Lelystad arrived at the Port of Rio Grande earlier this week to boost the latest maintenance dredging program.
The other Van Oord’s giant – TSHD HAM 318 – has been working on sediment removal in the port since November 24 and recently started the dredging operations near the public pier.
Dredging work maintains safe depths for the port activities.
Portos RS said that they plan to carry out similar activities on a regular basis to prevent silting in the channel and reduce the amount of material to be dredged.
