Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (GLDD) is gearing up for their next dredging/beachfill project, this time near the City of Fernandina Beach, FL.
GLDD will today (January 25) begin mobilizing their equipment and pipeline, reported the city officials.
They also added that the hopper dredge Liberty Island is expected to arrive around Feb 5, with a possible dredging start of Feb 6.
Placement of material will commence at Fort Clinch Beach and is expected to take about 8 days. After completion of Ft. Clinch, placement will commence at North Beach and is expected to take about 15 days with completion of beach work, including tilling and demobilization by mid-March, announced the city.
Overall, the project includes beneficial placement of an estimated 300,000 cubic yards of beach compatible sand on northern portions of the Fernandina Beach.
The sand needed for the Fernandina Beach nourishment project will be dredged from the Kings Bay Entrance Channel and sections of the inner channel.
