This major milestone officially begins a general investigation study conducted by USACE to examine expanding the Homer Harbor.

Located at the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula, and about 120 air miles southwest of Anchorage, the harbor is critical to the community infrastructure and local economy.

Currently, the harbor is experiencing overcrowding and has limited capacity for larger vessels.

The purpose of the investigation is to identify a feasible solution to meet the current harbor needs.

USACE’s civil works program will manage all aspects of the study by providing expertise in civil engineering, planning, programming, project management, economics and budgeting, the Army Corps said.
