Building up the sand stockpile has been the Opotiki Harbour Development teams main focus this week.

This photo shows excavators on the eastern beach, between the breakwaters and in the river, all loading up trucks to add to the stockpile.

The Opotiki Harbour Development Project will provide access for larger boats by creating an entrance that is navigable in all but the worst conditions, enabling Opotiki to become a service and processing base for aquaculture and other marine related industries.

Also, the project is set to enable the growth of the large-scale aquaculture industry in the offshore waters of the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
