Weeks Marine has won a $10.3 million Army Corps contract for the Brazos Island Harbor Channel dredging work.

According to the Galveston District, the work includes maintenance dredging of the Brazos Island Harbor (BIH) Jetty and Entrance Channels and beach replenishment operations.

The maintenance dredging of the channels will remove shoaling and draft restrictions in the BIH Federal Navigation Channel to provide safe and efficient navigation for vessel traffic to and from the Port of Brownsville.

Furthermore, the approximately 430,000 cubic yards of sand dredged from the channels will be used beneficially to replenish beaches at the City of South Padre Island and Cameron County Isla Blanca Beach.

Work will be performed in South Padre Island, Texas, with an estimated completion date of July 21, 2023.
