Just one month since assuming command of the USACE San Francisco District, Lt. Col. Timothy Shebesta spent last week meeting with the navigation partners and seeing first-hand the various dredging missions the District oversees in the Bay Area.

On Monday, he and District staff members toured Portland District’s huge hopper dredge, the Essayons, which was in San Francisco dredging the main shipping channel as well as areas of the Pinole Shoal Channel.

The 350-foot ship carries a max hopper load of 6,423 cubic yards.

USACE District uses a number of contracted dredges and two USACE hopper dredges to maintain the federal channels around the District.

On Wednesday, LTC Shebesta visited Richmond Harbor to see the dredging operations there by crewmembers from the Dutra Group.
