Three weeks into maintenance dredging of the federal navigation channel off Bowditch Point, the Corps team has removed more than 60,000 cubic yards of material for nearshore dispersal via a submerged pipeline off Fort Myers Beach.
According to the Corps, the offshore dispersion is proceeding south from the vicinity of Seaview St. toward Lovers Lane.
The project is being executed under a $2.9 million contract awarded in June to Cottrell Contracting Corp. of Chesapeake, Virginia.
Overall, the work includes dredging approx. 120,000 cubic yards of shoaling from Cuts 1, 2A and 3 of the federal channel, including wideners and settling basin, to a required depth of 12 feet plus 2 feet of allowable over-depth.
Dredging and placement will continue 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until the project is complete in late August/early September.
