Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) recently completed the South Pass Bird Island Project in the Mississippi River Delta.
According to CPRA, this project included re-dredging two existing crevasses off of South Pass and dredging a new, smaller crevasse from one of the two larger crevasses.
Crevasses are cuts in a river bank that allow the river to deposit sediments into adjacent shallow bays.
The dredged material from all three crevasses was beneficially used to rebuild a nearby bird island.
