The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dredges millions of cubic yards of sediment annually from the Delaware River and Bay to provide for safe maritime navigation.
A construction contractor is removing up to a million cubic yards of this sediment from USACE’s Fort Mifflin Dredged Material Disposal site in southwest Philadelphia.
This provides for more capacity for future dredging and ensures the sediment serves a useful purpose. USACE has sediment available for free at similar sites across the region.
