The shallow water depth in Little Lagoon Pass has triggered the standing Court Order requiring the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to prepare and begin dredging of the Little Lagoon Pass.
The dredging will allow the exchange of water from Little Lagoon and the Gulf of Mexico helping maintain the health of the lagoon.
“ This area will continue to remain open to public access for the entirety of the project. We understand the high usage of this area, both the parking lot and the beach, and we will make every effort to minimize the impact as much as possible ,” said the City of Gulf Shores .
Per a mandatory court order established in 1992, ALDOT is responsible for the maintenance of the Little Lagoon Pass.
Usually, the dredging of Little Lagoon Pass takes up to 60 days to complete.
