Boskalis has presented a short video of the land reclamation work being carried out in the Port of Rotterdam.
Last year, the Port of Rotterdam Authority signed a contract with Boskalis for the construction of around 40 hectares of new land in the northwest corner of Prinses Alexiahaven.
Beside this, Boskalis is also building two sand dams. Sand released behind these dams comes from the maintenance dredging of the access channel and inner port basins.
Due to the energy transition, sites in the port area are in high demand. However, the number of available sites in the existing port area is becoming scarce, which is why the port authority is building new sites on Maasvlakte 2.
The construction of new sites is always several years ahead of the establishment of businesses. This time is needed to construct the sites and allow them to settle. Furthermore, new roads and other infrastructure, such as utilities and transmission lines to these sites, must also be built.
