Two Liebherr crawler excavators were used recently to remove around 80,000 tonnes of gravel from the Danube River.
The deployment of the machines was necessary to ensure the “flow” of the Danube along this section, thus contributing to flood prevention in the nearby city center of Ulm.
The Liebherr R 938 excavators transported gravel washed into the Danube from the river Iller, making a fundamental contribution to flood prevention and playing an important part of the circular economy.
The excavated material has been sent to a nearby gravel works for processing and will be reused for various purposes.

The R 938 has a weight range of 22 to 45 tonnes and is part of the 8th generation of crawler excavators launched in 2019 and developed at Liebherr-France SAS in Colmar.
