Oceanside Harbor's channel dredging is set to begin this month. Shoaling has narrowed the safe navigation depth for boaters since the Corps' last dredge in May, and this fall's operation will restore that depth while advancing new timing for beach sand replenishment, City of Oceanside - Government said.
Under the dredging program, approximately 380,000 cubic yards of sand are expected to be dredged from the Harbor channel, an amount that has accumulated since May 2026.
The sand removed will be placed on Oceanside beaches to support beach nourishment, coastal resilience, public access and recreation.
The City, in coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, said that they expect Harbor channel dredging and beach sand placement to begin September 15 as part of a trial shift from the traditional spring dredging cycle to fall operations.
According to the City, the overall dredging and placement operation for fall 2026 is expected to conclude within approximately five to six weeks of the initial placement, depending on weather, ocean conditions and operational needs.
