Mid West Ports Authority has completed Phase 1 of their scheduled maintenance dredging program at Geraldton Port, removing sediment from sections of the shipping channel and main harbor to help maintain safe access for vessels.

Like many coastal areas, natural processes such as tides, currents and storms can gradually move sand and silt into navigational areas.

Regular maintenance dredging helps manage this sediment build up and maintain the depths needed for safe vessel movements.

Without this work, channels become shallower, reducing the port’s capacity and impacting the movement of goods through the region.
