The Western Bay of Plenty District said that the work will start next week on a $576,000 project to renew sections of the rock seawall at Katikati’s MacMillan Reserve.
The existing seawall has deteriorated over time, and the new sections of seawall will be designed and constructed to modern best-practice standards, helping protect the surrounding coastline for future generations, the District said.
“MacMillan Reserve is an important space for the Katikati community, so it’s important we invest in protecting it for the future. Renewing the seawall will provide stronger coastal protection and help ensure the reserve can continue to be enjoyed for years to come,” said Janine Field, Western Bay of Plenty Reserves and Facilities Assets Manager.
The work is scheduled to start on Monday, September 14, and is expected to take six to eight weeks, depending on weather and tidal conditions.
