A barge ran aground near North Vancouver, B.C., yesterday, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) said.
According to VFPA, the barge had been carrying sand and rock dredged from an area along the south shore of Burrard Inlet.
The dredging operations are taking place under the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge to allow larger oil tankers and cargo vessels to access Vancouver’s port lands and the Trans Mountain pipeline export terminal.
“The barge has now been stabilized and secured. The barge is not blocking navigation channels or impacting port operations, nor leaking fuel or hydrocarbons,” VFPA said.
The dredged material on the barge is currently being transferred to another barge, and the situation should be largely resolved in the following hours.
