The City of Venice with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Jacksonville District will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony this Friday, October 2, to celebrate the completion of the third periodic renourishment of the Venice Beach Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project.
According to USACE, the project restored approximately 3.2 miles of shoreline, extending from just south of Venice Inlet to just south of the Venice Fishing Pier. The work replaced sand lost since the previous renourishment in 2015 because of background erosion and coastal storms.
This project was completed by Weeks Marine under the contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Also, environmental monitoring was conducted throughout construction, including the relocation of marine turtle nests by Mote Marine Laboratory.
