At the Cocoa Beach Golf Muck Capping Project in Florida, Brennan crews are using a specialized sand capping process to help address decades of accumulated muck and improve water quality.
The project is a $41 million environmental restoration effort in the Banana River Lagoon (part of the Indian River Lagoon), adjacent to the Cocoa Beach Country Club Golf Course and High School in Florida.
This work involves placing approximately 250,000 cubic yards of clean sand across 140 acres of the lagoon. Applied in thin, controlled layers, the sand creates a protective barrier over the underlying muck, helping prevent pollutants from entering the water column while supporting habitat restoration and future seagrass growth.
