St. Lucie County said that the Ports, Inlets and Beaches department has contracted with Cavache Inc. to offload approximately 68,000 cubic yards of sand in the sediment trap basin within the Fort Pierce Inlet.

The project is located north of the federal navigation channel and south of Fort Pierce Inlet State Park, within the throat of Fort Pierce Inlet.

Construction will include a cutter suction dredging of the trap with all beach compatible sands being placed on Ft. Pierce Beach at Jetty Park.

"Active construction is currently anticipated to begin in early November, and a notice to mariners has been submitted with the U.S. Coast Guard. Construction is proposed 7-days a week, up to 24 hours a day, this project is expected to be completed before January 31, 2027," the County said.

During construction, Fort Pierce Beach will remain open to the public, except for areas immediately surrounding active work.
