Western Baltija Shipbuilding has completed the construction and partial outfitting of the Bestla R, the second hybrid trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) built this year for Danish client RN Shipping A/S (Rohde Nielsen). Its sister vessel, the Borr R, departed for the client in June.
Measuring 85.4 meters in length and 17.4 meters in width, this dredger - like Borr R - features a hydraulic longitudinal hull-opening system and is designed to accommodate a hybrid power plant.
“Building specialized vessels requires more than manufacturing capacity. It calls for integrated engineering expertise, coordinated execution and the ability to bring together multiple disciplines within a single industrial ecosystem. Projects like Bestla R demonstrate that Lithuania has the capabilities to deliver complex, large-scale orders for international clients," said Arnoldas Šileika, CEO of Western Shipyard Group.
"By combining specialized expertise with strong production capacity, our maritime engineering industry strengthens its position in global markets, creates value for the national economy and reinforces Klaipėda’s role as a center for specialized shipbuilding.”
The shipyard is currently carrying out six other shipbuilding projects, including a hybrid ferry for a Norwegian client and hulls for offshore patrol vessels destined for Singapore.
